  • Service Request, wait, or another suggestion?

    Hey guys,

So, I am an October filer. I have not been scheduled for an interview yet. Filed to Chicago office, from Kentucky. Almost going to be 8 months. **** *ally on USCIS processing times, the Louisville, Kentucky office updated the timeline of I-485 is between 6.5 months and 22 months. So, a service request for outside of normal processing times its basically impossible and useless. I finally got my EAD about 2 weeks ago, but things in immigration are making me nervous and I want to get the green card as soon as possible. Some people say contact senator, ombudsman, get infopass etc. Would hiring an immigration lawyer now help? I look forward to hear your insights and if you have any questions I am happy respond quickly.

Hiring an immigration lawyer will not help with anything to be honest. You will be waisting your money. Call your congressman or woman and let them know what is going on.

Since you have already filed without one, a lawyer will not be able to do much at this stage. If you get an RFE, you should get a lawyer. For your interview, it's very helpful to have a lawyer. If you just want some legal advice, that's fine, get a lawyer. But I doubt it would help you speed up your case if nothing else is going on.

If my math is correct, your field office is just now getting to AOS petitions filed late October - early November. As of January 1st, 2018, the Louisville, KY was processing cases as of 08/01/17. I looked at the employment based AOS petitions they get, and the number is not significant enough to delay family based AOS interviews. They do get a fair amount of Humanitarian based petitions. However, only relatives seeking to join asylees, who are now permanent residents, must be interviewed. Whatever number of applications they get, they clear right away. So I think you can still rely on the 7 month processing time for 50% of the cases.

I think you should be next in line. Here is proof that October filers are already being scheduled. I would reach out to your Senator and have the office inquire for you. Tell them that as of 01/31/18 the Louisville, KY was processing cases as of 08/01/17, and that you are aware that other October filers were scheduled for February 2018

You're welcome! By the way, The 08/01/17 date was from the last update they did with the old processing times.
