Address History 5 Years

Dear All,

Any help on the following would be greatly appreciated. In several forms (e.g. I-130) I am being asked for the physical address history for the past 5 years. I have taken a year of travel during which time I wasn't registered anywhere. I am unsure how to go about this? I have been in several countries over the course of that period in each case as a tourist so there was no registration with local authorities. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any recommendation on how to go about this?

I second what was already said. If you have access to the info & docs, you can give them a list of places you stayed - hostels, hotels, etc. and attached a note & some supporting docs like receipts. Otherwise, you can give them more general information and explain yourself. The more evidence you have the better

Also, how old are you? If it's reasonable to give your parents address, you can also do that and explain. I lived abroad for 3 years from age 20 to 23. Not the same situation exactly because I lived long-term (two years in one place, one year in another) but if I had been in your situation, I think I would have just used my parent's house and then added that it was my permanent but not physical address.

Keyword: tourist. You didn't establish residency in any of those countries. My husband came here on F-1 visa. His permanent address was his parent's home in Malaysia until he married me/filed for adjustment of status.
If anyone ever needed to send anything to you, they probably sent it to your parent's address. I would just put down your parent's address. If you want to add your travel history at the end of the form, go for it.

I guess my second issue here is that I was not officially registered at my parents place (or any place for that matter) during that time. Now as they ask for physical address and not registered address does this matter? Is the background check one where they check if I was actually registered there?

So where did you live before traveling for all that time? Did you leave your stuff anywhere? Did you file a change of address before leaving? Or did you tell the post office to hold your mail?

I think you need to be honest here. If you?re afraid that some ?other? address is going to come up, then chances are that it will come up.

yeah its pretty complicated. I was employed in China and was living in an apartment provided by the company until summer 2016, then after quitting my job I left and my visa ran out. I was then traveling for a little over a year without registering at a new address i.e. there cant be a new address popping up but at the same time its fairly blank as I have stayed in hundreds of different places on a weekly basis. My bank statements, bills etc always went to my parents house where I registered in fall 2017 as I needed a new passport. So its difficult to say the least.

In writing this I realize that there might be another issue here:I haven't de-regsitered from my parents place until now but at the same time been living with my wife for the past 6 months in the US.

I am starting to freak out a little here to be honest.

The AOS process is to prove you are in a bonafide marriage and reunification with your wife long-term. You have broken no laws or did not evade the law right? So just be honest and give all the places you registered mail and then write explaining to similar to you have done here for my any gaps in time.

End of the day just be honest and no need to freak out. As for your parents/wife your physical address within the US should always take precedence. If you get mail at another adress not that big a deal.

Your permanent address was your parents? address while you were traveling abroad. Done.
Then you started living with your wife 6 months ago. Report that as your permanent address starting 6 months ago.
What I think you should be doing is figuring out whether your field office is one of the slow ones. The system is getting even more congested now. So if you have a choice, move to a faster jurisdiction.
