  • Rejected?

So I just got a rejection letter in the mail with ALL of my forms and documentation returned. It says I didn't include the correct fee amount which I don't understand.

Do I have to have three separate checks? I am guessing it might be because I didn't include the biometrics amount because I thought we did that later.

Now I am worried I have to start all over again because they sent everything back. Can I resend all the papers along with new checks?

    So disappointing.

Can someone tell me what fees they sent and how they did it?

You can resend your packet, just attach correct fees.

You only need 2 checks, one is for the I-130 which is $535 and the second is for the I-485 which is $1,225 that's $1,140 + $85 for biometrics fee. So you're writing that check for $1,225.

      Thank you.

So I have to send separate checks? I am also sending in the i-765 too which I thought was $410. I am not sure which check to add the $85 to.

Now I will have to wait another 20 days for anything to happen again. AND we are about to move and we don't have a new address yet

Don't send checks separately to your packet. You should attach the $535 check to the front of the I-130 form and the $1,225 (this includes the $85 biometric fee) check to the front of the I-485 form so they can find them easily.

You don't have to send anything for the I-765 if you're filing with your I-485 it's free of charge.

The instructions on USCIS website shows how to write your checks. Like Tezza said, you write 2 checks. One for i130($535) and the other for i485 ($1225). That's a total of $1760. https://www.uscis.gov/us-visa-and-im...ing-uscis-fees
Follow the instructions on the website. It says to write the form you are paying for on the check. So for the i485 payment u will write, " I485 and Biometric fees" and on i130 you write, "I-130". Place them in front of your respective forms. No payment is needed for i765 or i131. It's free of cost when applying for adjustment of status.
Don't panic. All is well, it's a simple fix. Just correct the payments and while u have your forms now double check and make sure u signed everything and if u have additional evidence, stick it in there and ship it off.
          Good luck.😊

I am wondering why all three forms were rejected each stating they had the incorrect fee if the i765 doesn't even require payment.

Also, what is the i131 used for? I saw it was a travel document?

            Thank you for your help!

Everything dependent on i485. If fee for i485 is not correct nothing is accepted. Send it back when correct amount, can even do 1 check for full amount.

All three would be rejected since the money was incorrect. It covers everything. Also, they wouldn't take one application and send back another. It's a packaged deal. Since you sent i130 and 1485 together the appropriate term is called concurrent filing.

I-131 is Advanced Parole which is a travel permit. With this document, you can travel outside of the USA while your i485 is pending. Like the name says, "parole", which means when the person travels back to the USA they will be paroled and the CBP officers will run further checks on the person as apposed to traveling with a Permanent Resident Card(Green Card) or a US passport where the person will just show it to the officers at port of entry and go on their way.

Thank you - is it recommended to get this travel permit?

Well some people go ahead and get it just in case they have to travel back home for an emergency. I didn't apply for one. I'd rather use the green card.

I didn't get one. There is nothing wrong with doing it and having advance parole, but for me, I am maybe being extra cautious but would prefer to remain inside the country until I (hopefully) receive my green card, just because of the immigration climate right now. But as far as I am aware there's no risk in using it, and everyday people use it to come back into the country without issue.

I applied because I want to travel to my home country and finally introduce my husband to my relatives, show him where I grew up and finally go on our honeymoon etc. So it is not a necessity more like a preference. Plus, it is free to apply, in my opinion it doesnt hurt to apply.

It's better to have the I-131 and not use it than to not have it and suddenly need it for an emergency back home.

As someone who applied for i131, 3 months after EAD...Apply for it up front, getting emergency AP which I have looked into is not a fun process at all. Also same as other poster never wanted to consider to travel...Then learned my office could be 2 years no interview...thats not acceptable to not be prepared. Almost had to travel for business may end up doing so soon asked process for emergency AP critieria is way overboard.
