  • I-485 application returned

    Greetings,

I recently submitted an I-485 application, concurrently with I-765.

The application was returned to us a few days later, saying that an old version of a form was used.

It took me some time to figure out what was not right with the forms.

I downloaded the forms from the USCIS website, and the I-485 form seems to be okay. However, when looking at the I-765, I realized that I used the right edition number but not the from the with the most recent date. The version of I-765 that I used was released on 01/17/17. However, they published a newer edition a week later on 07/17/17.
I am not sure what the difference is between the two versions but wanted to warn people here not to make the same mistake.

Also, I had a question if somebody knows this, the application that they returned to us contains multiple pages of supporting materials. All the pages were scanned by USCIS scanners and had some serial numbers on the bottom. I was wondering if when submitting the new application with the correct edition date of I-765 forms, should I keep all the supporting documents as they are or make new copies without the serial numbers on them.
Would the old numbers interfere somehow with their scanners?

    Thanks in advance,

    Best,

    DS.

Wait your i485 was all returned cause of just an old i765 form? That does not make sense totally.
The NOA for i485 has nothing to do with i765 form. You sure your i485 applications didnt mention other errors?

No, nothing else was mentioned. I guess since it is concurrent filing of of I-485 and I-765 , they returned the whole package.

They only return whole package if the i-485 was rejected. Make sure you got the fees and all forms right. A bit strange otherwise truly. I would call them and inquire.

So sorry your package was mailed back to you. That must have been disappointing. Yes USCIS requires the use of their most updated version. Yea there is a difference with the 1765 version of 1.7.17 than 7 .7.17. I noticed the difference while filling out the the 7.7.17 version for my I765 renewal recently.
It is important to them. So just do what they request and you will be fine.

Yes, you have to look at the edition date. The edition date is at the bottom of the page. We should all be signed up to get alerts. If a form is updated, you get an email right away. https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts

It makes the most sense to return your entire package. The I-485 is the main reason for your filing. The I-765/I-131 are ancillary and optional, in this case. I would send a brand new package of everything. Since they returned it all, those serial numbers were probably assigned to someone else. For laughs, enter those receipt numbers and see for yourself.

Triple check EVERYTHING. Remember that you have 1 year to submit the I-693 from the date that it was completed. And then it remains valid for another year for adjudication purposes. I'd say just hang on to it.

Do not forget that USCIS requires you file ALL EVIDENCE OF BONA FIDE MARRIAGE with your applications - as stated on page 3/12 of the I-130 instructions. If you didn't, take this as an opportunity to fix that.

I think you should be okay, last time I checked the 07/17/17 edition with the expiration date on 02/28/2018 is still the most recent one.
They say on the USCIS website that we can still file using this edition, until the release the newer version.
