  • Interview notice has father's name under mine

I just noticed something about my Interview Notice that I hadn't seen before.

Where it has the address to portion - i.e. the section you can see through the little window on the envelope to see who it's for and their address, my father's name appears also. For example it says:

    My Name
    c/o Father's Name
    My Address

I am thinking that c/o means child of? I am thinking it's maybe so that if someone with the same name has an interview, they can differentiate cases using the father's name too. But I don't know for sure, and I didn't notice it until today, so I wondered if anybody else had that on their interview notices too.

    Thanks guys!

I have a similar thing, except it's my mother's name!
I asked my lawyer and they didn't understand why here name would be on there, but were not concerned either.

My last name, even in my home country, is not too common. My first name is very common.
My last name has multiple ways of spelling and ******** tells me there is only 1 other person with my exact name.
But who knows, maybe he's also moving to the US

c/o means "in care of". You use that when you are staying at a friend's home temporarily, and your name isn't on the mailbox.
You probably live in a building or a community. Mail carriers tend to return mail addressed to people who are not listed on the mailbox.

Hmm.. I wonder why they've got that for me then.

        My Name
        c/o Dad's name
        My Address

My dad doesn't have an address in the US and has in fact never even been here and I didn't specify anything in the "In Care Of" boxes on any of the forms. Can you think of any reason why they'd do that?

I am curious if everyone has this on their interview notice. And it's only the interview notice as its not on any of my other letters from USCIS. The only thing I thought is so they differentiate names that might be the same by using a parent's name associated with it.

Or maybe it's just standard c/o as you say care of, so for example there is another addressee name in case the letter doesn't find the intended recipient? It was just strange as my dad's never been to the US.

It's definitely odd, but it's probably human error. The letter shows you are scheduled for interview. I wouldn't be worried.

Yeah it must be human error. I guess when they've addressed the letter to me, for some reason they've used a c/o as well and got confused and put my dad's name, rather than my wife or her mother who owns the house. As I say, he's never been to the US, much less this house so it's got to be human error.

I was just curious as well if others have had anything like that.

            Thanks.

Did you ever get an answer about this? I just received my interview notice and it also says c/o my father, who I haven?t spoken to in a very long time and lives in a different country.

                  Same

I had the same thing - my mother's name is on the interview notice with "c/o"
                  No idea why.
