  • Florida I-485 filers. EAD never came but the permanent resident card came early.

Hi Guys! I'm here to share my experience with my I-485 application here in Florida. I filed for both EAD and Permanent residency through marriage.

4/22/18 - Notice of Action received for both application.
    5/15/18 - Biometrics appointment.
05/24/18 - Got a notice through mail that interview is being scheduled.
7/3/18 -Interview date : The interview went pretty quick! Make sure that both original and photocopies are in hand
e.g. 1) Bank accounts or credit line with both spouses' names in it ( mind you this is the strongest evidence that you guys can present. It means that your spouse trust you with you their finances. 2) Car or any form of insurances with both names 3) Mobile subscriptions with both names and address in it 4) Utility bills 5) Photographs with both sides of the family in it. 6) Any form of mails of both spouse delivered in the same address. 7)Make sure that the sponsoring spouse is filing his latest income tax return cause they will ask for that too. Guys, these are the basics that the officer asked from us.

7/6/18- Card mailed and got it on hand on the 10th.

The timeline of the process is pretty fast. I never got the EAD but I would not need that now that I have the card. I just realized that USCIS field of where you filed is the office assigned to process the permanent residency only. The EAD is processed by the USCIS national office that's why it took longer. The local USCIS processing time depends on how much backlog there is in the area. In my case, I guess Florida doesn't have that much of applicants compared to the other states. In conclusion, the timeline depends on which area you applied to.

I know the waiting time and the uncertainty is frustrating! I was frustrated at some point especially that I can't get a job to be able to sustain paying for the bills and all. I know it's not easy waking up every morning and being hopeful that your application has no problem running in progress. You are not the only one going through this. I can only suggest to stay positive and do something productive while waiting for something good coming your way. Pray and hang in there!! =)

Excellent, my timeline was pretty swift too. 3 months from filing to attending the interview. I expect my GC hopefully in the next 10-15 days according to the officer - current status is new card is being produced. I also didn't receive the EAD, but as you said, field offices deal with the green card side and the NBC/or other service center is responsible for the EAD, so it really depends on which one is faster at processing your case.

        Congrats to you!
