It's not strange at all. Both biometrics and interview are done at field offices that are close or central enough to the applicant's address. Nothing to worry about. Be more than prepared for the interview and enjoy.

    All the best.

      Birth Certificate

By the way, what are people taking to their I-485 interviews for birth certificates? My wife is thinking to get another certified copy from her home country, but I think we already gave one as part of the package. Do we need to go to all that hassle to get certified copies of our birth certificates?

I believe they do ask you to bring the originals of those copies you sent in with your application.

Congrats on getting your interview scheduled! Knowing that is an application support center (ASC), I would call USCIS and the ASC to make sure. I can't help but wonder if that's another glitch. Here is a screenshot of that "satellite" office's InfoPass page.

It says that as of Nov 2015, N-400 interviews will take place there for those in the surrounding area. However, folks will still need to travel to the Buffalo office for I-485, I-130 & I-765 interviews

Thanks much. Frustrating. Maybe I'll give USCIS a week or so to notify Syracuse they have to give an interview and they'll respond "HUH?? We don't to that!!", at which time I'll get a status update saying "Oooopppsss".

Certainly not looking forward to calling USCIS and maybe throwing a monkey wrench into everything.

You're welcome! I figured it was worth looking at the InfoPass page. Some offices will post information on it to be more efficient.
It's up to you. I would contact them right away. I would ALSO reach out to your Senator to make sure that the appointment is honored. Congress and the Senate must be made aware of USCIS mess-ups.

Do you have a recommendation on which number to call so as not to get them upset at me and say "NO INTERVIEW FOR YOU !! NEXT !!!"

I would go to your Senator first. That way they have to honor your appointment.

Field Office vs Field Support Office

Okay, I did a bit more investigation and found the USCIS web page "Find a USCIS Office/Field Offices" where it says:

"Field offices (within the United States) handle scheduled interviews on non-asylum related applications."

And it allows you to search for a Field Office and I entered my zip code and it came up with Syracuse. Though on its webpage, Syracuse is listed as "Field Support Office".

So I guess the question becomes whether interviews are done at Field Support Offices or only Field Offices, or is there even a difference?

                    Thanks.

According to the InfoPass page, Syracuse is a Satellite Office, and they do not handle I-485 interviews.

Thanks. Yeah, I saw that. Not sure which to believe. Maybe I'll just schedule an InfoPass visit to Syracuse and ask them directly. At least they should be made aware if they're being mis-scheduled.

Do not be afraid to go to a Senator. Their job is to assist constituents. That's how they get elected. Most are seeking re-election in November. So they should be eager-beaver to help you. I am suggesting reaching out to Senator because that way USCIS does not get to back out, and say "oh, sorry. Appointment cancelled then"

                            AOS Card in the Mail

For what it's worth, after all the worry it turns out that the Syracuse Field Support Office is indeed a legit location for AOS interviews. We went there on our Sept. 10 scheduled interview, we were approved on the spot, and are now waiting for the card (it's in the mail). Glad I didn't go to the senator

                              Congrats on your green card.

These days, you have to speak up. The system can't be trusted. There is nothing wrong with reaching out to a senator to have their staff inquire, or make something happen for you.
