  • AOS Interview Completed but IO wants an updated I-693

I had my marriage based (F2A Category) I-485 interview on 7/30/18.
The IO took the printed photos, bank statements, house deeds etc. but asked us to wait for a RFE for I-693 since the medical exam for submitted I-693 from Oct 2017 was actually taken in May 2017.

My question to you all is has this happened to anyone here who was told to wait for a RFE for I-693 since it had expired at the time of the interview?

How soon will I get an RFE?
How soon will the IO make a decision after submission of the sealed envelop containing I-693?

Timings vary all the time. Hard to tell.

Just wait for I-693 RFE and get new medical exam done.

Weird, we were told by a uscis supervisor that the exam is valid for a year starting on the date you submitted your application( in you case, october )

It is the date of the application yes but IOs are also looking on the date of the first medical too. Once your first medical anniversary date has passed, and it is before your interview just re-do the medical. The IOs are meticulous and have a prescriptive requirement list that they will not sidestep.

Josger is right on the money. You have 1 year to submit the I-693 from the date the exam is completed. Then, from the date USCIS receives it, the I-693 remains valid for another year for adjudication purposes. You sent it with your application 5 months after it was completed. So let's assume they received it in 10-2017, then it remains valid until 10-2018. That ISO may have been new. And there is no need for you to wait for a RFE.

I strongly urge you to reach out to your Senator, I would even go to the Ombudsman -Senators are faster. Yes, you can also make an infopass appointment and drop off the I-693. HOWEVER, it's important for the Senator and Ombudsman to become aware of this error. USCIS needs to get their act together.

Act now. Do not wait for a RFE.

My Pd was on August 2017, I had my medical done in july 11 2017, my interview was on july 18 2017. I had a new medical done before the interview just in case but we were told, at the interview, by the IO's supervisor, that ours was still valid.
There seems to be a mismatch somewhere...

You are right. Though immigrant application cases seem similar they are not the same. Each field office and officer seem to exercise varied degrees of control and demand in the process. However, all applicants should be aware of the deadlines, submission dates of all documents supplied to USCIS. Sometimes it is the luck if the hand that is dealt.

RFE Received exactly 7 days after the interview

So I received the RFE for I-693 and still says that the submitted doesnot meet the guidelines.

I already got the exam done anyways and will submit the package instead of fighting USCIS at this stage.
IT IS WHAT IT IS with dumb USCIS bureaucrats !
