  • RFE asking for additional assets for 125% to meet poverty guidelines

Last month I have sponsored GC for my 82 year mother. She is in US with me on visitor visa. I have submitted i-130, i-485,i-693, i-864 (affidavit of support), 2017 tax documents. I did not submit W-2 or proof of income or employment.Just sent my copy of 2017 and 2016 tax return. Box 1 on my W2 is $120k.

But last week I received request of initial evidence. I have 5 dependents (with mother) and showed gross income on $142k. Inspite of that they are saying that income did not meet 125% of poverty guidelines. USCIS is asking to show additional assets.

Also USCIS is asking for pay stubs, letter of employment (LOE), W-2s which I did not submit originally.

I can understand pay stubs , LOE. But why are they saying that income is not 125% and asking for additional assets?

Puzzling indeed. Maybe there was a typo on the form when you entered the gross income? Can't really think of any other reason unless they somehow managed to lose the documents you sent last month.
