  • Effects of Address Change?

    Hi guys,

I just filed for my I-485 I-131 and I-765 at Chicago Lockbox and all 3 were routed to National Benefit Center. I believe my I-485 will be processed in Santa Ana office since I live in Orange County, CA. However, I'm moving to San Bernardino county later this year, and will be submitting an address change request. My question is: "Would USCIS transfer my case to San Bernardino field office, and how does it affect my case? or I have to file a request to transfer my case? Please advise. Thank you.

My guess is that they would transfer your case to the new field office. If you put your zipcode in into the link below, USCIS will tell you definitivly if you are moving juristiction. In terms of how it affects your case, it won't make too much difference given both Santa Ana and San Bernardino are processing in a similar timeframe.

USCIS field offices do not allow walk-ins. You must have an appointment to visit an office.Field offices in the U.S. and its territories provide:Interviews for all non-asylum cas

To be clear, the NBC will update your jurisdiction in the system. However, your physical paper file stays at the NBC until the day that you get the "Interview scheduled" status update. There is an update SOMETIMES that says "Your case was transferred to your field office" Or something like that. That's not consistent. So we just know that when your interview is scheduled, you file is at least on the way to the field office.

Again, "case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" does not mean your file is at your field office. It means it's ready to interviewed - that's it. It's up to the field office to request your file. And from what other knowledgeable members have learned from Infopass appointments, some field offices choose whatever file is ready to be scheduled for interview. They don't always choose by priority date. They just choose cases that have the same "case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" status.
