Hi everyone,

I have a dilemma, hopefully someone can offer advice. We just received our interview notice for August 30th. The dilemma is that we have a vacation booked to Jamaica from August 28th thru September 4th. We bought insurance on the trip, so I'm not worried about that, but should I reschedule the vacation to before or after the interview date?? What do you think would be best? I've read it can take up to 120 days after an interview for approval. Any advice is appreciated. Oh, he has an approved advanced parole with his EAD also.

I am a Jamaican and miss my homeland a lot. However, missing a Green card interview for a vacation is NOT an option. I would recommend rescheduling the trip after the interview. Unless you had plans to take pics there, introduce your spouse to your family or use the tickets as evidence. If that is the case change the date of trip for next week at least 10 days before the interview, that way you will get back in time to organize your documents. My hubz and I just did our I485 interview on Tuesday, July 31. It was fantastic, but we planned and organized our stuff months in advance.

You are one smart traveler. I would reschedule after the interview date. I would strongly recommend that you shoot for an approval on the spot and go overboard with your evidence. Then, at the end of the interview you can ask for the I-551 stamp.
Anyway, that's what I would do. You do not want some hurricane delaying your return or anything that's out of your control getting in the way.

*Edit 07-11-18, just a few days ago, helpmylife informed the forum that the 10 year green card had been approved.
There is a lot to learn from helpmylife?s experience. Like I told him, it would all be fine, and it?s all fine now, but after having been in his shoes, I strongly recommend not leaving anything to chance.

8. Thread by Tezza. Approved on the spot. This case is remarkable because their interview was scheduled within 2 to 3 months. Tezza did not have a lease, and presented several notarized affidavits of residence to prove that they lived with his wife?s parents. He also presented an Advanced health care directive. I highly recommend this document. USCIS takes it very seriously. Bottom line is that they maximized the evidence they had available. They focused on evidence dating back to when they first met until the adjustment of status interview. (It?s sort of the way you would present evidence for a k-1 visa)

I agree with USCFilingforSpouse,

you need to compile as much evidence as possible, so much so that you're going to look like a hoarder walking into that interview and they'll have no choice but to approve you based on evidence as well of course on account of your owning the interview and passing with flying colors, also you should definitely reschedule that trip until after the interview cause like USC again said. Hurricanes are no Bueno when it comes to trying to be back on time for interviews and it's definitely hurricane season. Best of luck and keep us updated!

Thank you all for your quick responses. We're going to reschedule our vacation until after the interview. We are compiling as much documentation as possible so we'll get an immediate approval. I sent everything I could possibly think of to send in with our applications, but I'm still going to add updated documents and more pics!! I considered hurricane season as well, so you all are right, I'm afraid of chancing our return in time for the interview.
