  • Long thread!!!--- seattle aos interview completed !!!

    Hello everyone,

I just had the AOS interview today at the Seattle office and wanted to share the experience as a thank you note for all the helpful threads which helped me gathered all the necessary paperwork and got approved on spot at the interview.

Me and my USC husband had the appointment at 1:30pm. We arrived at 1pm and went through all the security check, front desk check, and got directed to the interview waiting area. We got called right after 5 minutes of waiting even though there were a full room. A female officer led us to her office. She asked if I had anything to add to what they already had on hand at the time. So I pulled out every single piece of evidence we had and submitted to her. She asked us to take an oath. We went over all questions in I-485, and I-130 which including verifying the information and Yes/No part.

I only remember some of the questions she asked about our relationship but basically we walked her through our timeline from the relationship, the proposal, the wedding, and the current life. Also, she asked what were our near and far future plans as well. So think ahead to answer this question guys.

About the paperwork we brought with us. We had:
    1. Two 1&1/2 inch ring binders as Required and Supporting Documents; (I will attach the table of contents of two lists below)

If she did not need anything else from us, we can be expecting our Conditional Green Card to be arrived around 30-60days (we got married 1 year and 10 months already!) and she asked if we had any questions for her. I asked her whether I could have the I-551 temporary stamp within today because I have a job offer from a company and hoping me to start next week. She said she would hold my passport and verify the job offer and will let me know. She led us back to the waiting room. Our interview was about 35 minutes. We waited about 15 minutes more when I received a text message said Card is in Production!!! Hallelujah !!! The officer walked out with the stamp in it too!!! This moment, the moment we all have been waiting for, this is it! We thanked the officer and me and my husband hugged each other so tight and overwhelmed with joy!! I know the journey is long and exhausting. But as long as we can keep our faith and stay strong together. That day will come you guys! And thank you again for all the helpful threads helped us achieved our goal.

          Hi there,

Thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, I have to wait until 90 days before my 2-year green card expired to file the removal form.

Congrates !! and thanks so much for your sharing, I'm also filing in Seattle so this is really helpful. How long does it take for you to get to this interview ?

I751 timelines have been brutal. You can apply for N400 during i751 and may just skip i751. Thats a slight upside to your situation.

                    Hello

Yes, I also got a 2y CR. It seems I would be able to apply for citizenship soon after the removal of conditions. However, in my opinion the timeline is so ridiculous and I realize the term 'resident' is a status than purely an indicator of someone's abode. In all, I have been 'living' in the US, yes legally, for the past 4 years; yet I only became a 'resident' last week, hahaha. Oh the dates and times that become significant. Thanks for the insight.

                    All the best.

Yes, you don't have to wait for the removal of conditions to be adjudicated. You just go ahead and file the N-400 90 days before your 3 year anniversary as a permanent resident. You don't get to "skip" the I-751. They're typically adjudicated together. Since N-400s are adjudicated faster, whoever gets it should request your I-751 to be sent to that field office. Bear in mind, this is a manual process. And sometimes, people get to the N-400 interview only to be told that they have to get the I-751 approved first and to come back when that happens. That is inaccurate and not according to USCIS policy manual procedure.

So the best thing to do, in order to avoid arguing over that, is to make an infopass appointment and inform the Field office that the I-751 is pending, and ask them to please request the file. You can even bring them a copy of everything you submitted with your I-751. At least, I would.

The field office will request it. Sometimes you end up having 2 interviews back to back. Some people have the I-751 interview first. Your spouse has to be present for that one if you filed a joint petition. Then, you move on to your citizenship interview. Sometimes you just have one interview, especially if the officer feels that you submitted more than enough evidence of bona fide marriage. To be clear, that would be a mountain of evidence.

                        Hello there

Thank you for the thorough detail, we pretty much figured it out to be just as you outlined. Right now we gave mount Diablo worth of evidence for the I485 interview , yep we kept copies too. We are most definitely certain that by 1yr 9 mths in time for the removal of conditions we will have reached Mount Kilimanjaro 🤣. We will if can further duplicate evidence for the N400.

                        Thanks for the tips USCFFS.

Haha, love the analogies. But yes, filing the N-400 puts a rush on your I-751 - so to speak.

                              and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Unfortunately, it does not work that way. If you have been married for 2 years on the day your case is adjudicated, then you get the 10 year green card. Otherwise, you get the 2 year conditional card. Then, the clock resets and starts from zero again. Then 90 days before the conditional card expires you file for removal of conditions. Then, 90 days before your 3rd anniversary as a conditional resident who has also been married to a US citizen for that time, you can apply for US citizenship. *The US citizen needs to have been a US citizen for that time, as well.

Alternatively, if your AOS interview comes up within 90 days of your 2nd year anniversary of marriage, you could show up with an expired I-693 and they'll issue a RFE. You have 90 days to respond to the RFE. Now some officers are kind and willing to "help" you and issue you a NOID. You have 30 days to respond to that, which would make you *just* miss the 10 year green card. Maybe expired I-693s aren't that bad...
