  • Biometrics walk-in with copy of original notice

Hi, I’ve looked around the forums and can’t find the same scenario as the following so would appreciate your input.

Biometrics appointment was scheduled for 02-Aug. I wasn’t able to attend due to work so sent the form back and asked for a reschedule (although I now realize I should have just walked in). I did take a photocopy of the application before sending. So, I’m wondering if I can walk-in with the copy and get my biometrics taken anyway and whilst I’m being rescheduled?

Also, what is the impact, in the overall process/timeline, if the biometrics is rescheduled? Are there steps dependent on bimoetrics that could delay the whole process? As I’m worried the rescheduling may have now slowed things down.

Finally, how long in your experience does it take for the rescheduleding request to processed typically?

    Hello

In the future please re-think requesting rescheduling if anything with USCIS. My advice is to tweak your activities or daily routine around them not the other way around. However, I would still try to go and do the biometrics with the copy. All the best,

We had similar situation, only my husband decided to stop by and check what he can do to reschedule and they took his biometrics right away and stamped a biometric letter with the date.

You should have send a copy of your letter and not original, but there's nothing you can do about now.

I would suggest to try walk in with a copy any way. Try to find out when they are not as busy, then they are more inclined to help you. May be walk in there twice, first to find out when they are not as busy and next time try to get your biometrics taken.

      Good luck!

You could try, but they use the barcodes on that form during your biometrics to scan to ensure they have the right person, and the fingerprints etc attach to the right person. The only issue I can see in using a copy is that the barcode might not work correctly. But worth a try anyway.

As others have said, for future reference never reschedule anything from USCIS unless it's literally a life or death situation, you just make your wait much longer, as it has certainly slowed down your process, as effectively you've gone to the back of the line to be scheduled for biometrics.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'll try the walk-in with the copy.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced on how the long the reschedule takes from the request being sent.

Also does delaying my biometrics delay any other step in the overall process, assuming I get it done in the next month or so?

It probably doesn't delay what happens later, because nothing can be done without the biometrics anyway.

The wait is usually the time it takes to be rescheduled. But you might as well try the walk in, and let us know if the copy you have works in terms of the barcode scanning correctly on their system, as I'm curious.

That's interesting. I wonder why that particular person was able to get their EAD without having a background check.

                    Done .

Went to the USCIS office (in Revere, MA) at 2pm. The office was very quiet, about 10 people there including staff. I explained my situation to the Manager she was understanding and very willing to help. She then printed out a new version of the document, as the barcodes do need to be readable, and 5 minutes later I was done. This was with a reschedule pending.

So if in doubt, go to the office in person at a quiet time.
