  • Urgent help needed: Package got returned because of incorrect fee

Please, I applied for OPT May 24th, based on my F1 status, received receipt June 1st. but nothing on that till now. While I am waiting, I prepared and sent in my I-485 July 18th, Just got the package sent back because of incorrect fee, even though I know I had the right amounts enclosed...I just went back to the instructions again to see what I did wrong, and It seems the only acceptable payment method is via check or credit card. I used Money Order. My concern now is I don't want these documents sent back a second time. So please, if anyone has answers to the questions I have below, plus suggestions on what to do to ensure everything is successful this time, I would appreciate it!

    Questions:
    1. Since I still have my OPT application in, would that still be processed since I am in the process of adjusting my status? or would the new application override it?
    2. Do you think It's wise to send the I-485 without medical records? I have done all my vaccinations/immunization, only thing left now is the visit to the civil surgeon, but I am crunched on cash that I am unable to afford it at the moment. Should I just wait until I can afford it? Does it affect the process?
    3. Do I need to use fresh print outs or just send back the documents that we already sent in the first time?
    4. Since the package was sent back , if we resend it, would it extend the processing time?
    5. Most of the documents have been separated, attached to different parts, should i just leave it like that, or re-arrange it to the initial way I put all documents (spouse information separate from mine, and everything about him, all together, and mine all together, shared documents likes bills and other, bonded together too, although all in one folder).

No worries !! I got a same situation, just keep as it is organised by them, send back the whole packaging with correct fee by cheque (remember to include $85 for bio fee). I've been advised that the medical records can be given at the interview stage. Good luck!!

      Hello

For the record, the medical record (I693) is due with the initial application. The choice and subsequent advice to provide it on the day of the interview is based on the expense of it all and the length of wait for an interview date. Since many persons receive their interview date several months up to a year or more after submission of the initial package, they find that they had to renew the medical, so they received an RFE, or took it along at the interview. This choice ensured that only one medical fee payment is made and a singular inconvenience of time taken to visit the US civil surgeon.

However, since it is a required document with the initial package, individuals can still get RFE prior to the interview which slows their process. If the I693 is taken to the interview some IOs may still reserve time to review, this may be done on the same day or months after. Also, in light of the stern, no tolerance mannerism of USCIS for future RFEs by September 11, I would advise everyone to submit all and every document required at the initial package, including I693, the medical report. If the first report expires prior to the interview date (use the date of the medical) the person should take a copy of the first results to his or her doctor. This can be used to reduce repeated vaccinations and thus lessen the cost of the second medical.
