  • Is it worth raising a SR about not being able to see a receipt number online

    Hello
I am a November 2017 filer and every time I go to check the I-485 status, I get this error message

    Validation Error(s)
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:
My Case Status does not recognize the receipt number entered. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283.

I called up the USCIS line and they said they can raise a service request to fix it. Does anything ever come out of those service requests?
Priority date of Oct 30th 2017
    12/05/2017 - Did my biometrics
12/17/2017 - Got a RFE requesting my USC sponsors tax information for proof of sponsorship
12/19/2017 - USCIS received our RFE response on December 19th
    02/03/2018 - got my combined EAD\AP
10/04/2018 - Status updated in the USCIS case tracker as "Ready to schedule interview"
    10/09/2018 - Applied for EAD\AP Renewal
12/26/2018 - Got a notification that the "interview was scheduled"
    01/31/2019 - Interview date

I mean you can, but really you'd just be better off calling them periodically cause the online system is notorious for not being updated like it should. so you could get your EAD and be approved and have your GC in hand and it could still say we're ready to schedule your interview.. it's up to you. but just know it's not as great as they make it out to be.
This is strictly an opinion and should not be misconstrued as legal advice. The use of this information is strictly at your own risk.

Thank you, that helps. I'll request them to raise a service request and hope something comes out of it since even tier 1 reps cant give me any information and even though if the online information is out of sync, it gives me context. Right now its a black box.

I also have another question which could be considered silly but I would appreciate if you would humor it. I was planning to talk to a tier 2 officer to find out more of about the case (since I cant see anything online). Is there any danger in that triggering something like an adverse remark on your file or is it just an information request that I can do (want to do it since the online site is totally useless right now) and I would like to get an idea of where my interview scheduling state is (I already got my EAd\AP in February)

      Thanks

I would try creating an account first on egov and the dhs website. That error message you see tends to happen when people check the status without having created an account first.

When my case had the glitch, I was about to rise an SR every 30 days to get an update. Most of the time the answer was generic, keep waiting blah blah. But I mean it helps to know nothing is totally wrong. Once the glitch was fixed, I could see all the SRs on the case, after logging in finally.
