I-485 RFIE Processing Time HELP !

Hello folks,

I filed Employment Based AOS April 2017. Finger print was done on May 2018. On late July 2018 ( 485 pending about 100 days), I received RFE( request Initial evidence) for Birth Certificate. On Aug 20 website shows RFE response was received.
Until today, I still not received EAD/AP or I-693 courtesy letter. ( currently I-485 pending about 140 days)

Can your guys share some experience that:

1. Generally after RFE ( Birth Certificate) response received, how many days I can expect to hear back for the next step for my I-485 cases?

2. Will they usually finish review all documents and put all requested evidence in ONE RFE notice ? ( like my RFE notice , they only request Birth Certificate) Or once received requested evidence, they continuing review case and might issue 2nd RFE?


I am so frustrated so greatly appreciate if you can share any experience! Thank you !

Hey man sorry to hear about your RFIE
I had one for the same reason.
First you can search my old post ?RFIE timeline? where users share their RFIE timeline. Will give you an idea and estimate of time.

Now for my own research and study cases I notice that time depend for how minor/major is your RFIE. For example small mistake like missing signature missing a w2 can be like 15 -30 days till you see any update on your case. Something more major like missing proof can take up to 90 days.

In my case the secendery evidence for my Birthcertifice wasn?t good enough had to back it up with more evidence. Took them 4 month after ?rfie received? to give my case an update which was ?case is ready to be scheduled for an interview? still no EAD/AP by the way.

Look at the end of the day this things are depend on the IO that handling your case. Some get back on the case soon they get the respond and some keep it on the side with the RFIE pile and waiting for time frame they have.
Some are quick to send RFIE and some not.

You can get 2nd rfie any time even after interview.

Got an RFE during interview

I got an RFE during our August 13th interview. IO asked for Form Supplement J which I found out later to be "not required" when filing I-140 and I-485 concurrently. Not sure why the IO didn't know it too, if I only knew it then I would've answered that Supplement J is not required as per the USCIS documentation website.

Anyway, instead of arguing the issue me and my attorney decided to send the form via Fedex overnight on the Aug 14th and received confirmation from Fedex on Aug 15th. However, I didn't even received a confirmation from Chicago office that they got my response for the RFE. It's so frustrating until now we are still waiting for the result of the AOS interview. Case status online still says "Interview has been completed and Case Must be Reviewed".

This process is so horrible!

Sry to hear your Supp J RFE. Look like these days whether you changed employer or not, you had to include Form J along in package. Since 09/01-09/30 there is no visa quota avail, so I think you might wait til Oct 1 to see if any update.

No, the IO handed over the RFE during the interview and told me to send the response ASAP as my daughter was turning 14 that time to avoid further delay. That's why I submitted the day after but they didn't even acknowledge receipt of the response. My daughter turned 14 on Monday already. I'm so pissed.
