  • I485: finished OPT and overstayed - now married and confused :(

Hello and thanks for helping. I am trying to do all of this without a lawyer but have 2 or 3 questions that I am unsure about. I graduated college in December of 2016 with an F1 VISA and moved on to the OPT, which was completed last February. Since then, I have unfortunately overstayed quite a bit, however, I have just married my wife (living with her for the past year and a half) a few days ago and she told me to work on this adjustment of status application. Do I really need a lawyer for all of this? And now for the questions in the I485 form:

My I94 says D/S for the expiration date so I have written that on the form but I do not know how to answer 23c (Status on Form I-94 (for example, class of admission, or paroled, if paroled). Do I just write overstay because my EAD was expired on 02/20/18? My F1 VISA is still valid until 2021, though. And what would I write for number 24 (What is your current immigration status (if it has changed since your arrival)? And finally for the question, "Are you applying for adjustment based on the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) section 245(i)?", do I answer yes because I overstayed? A lot of websites mention that most people do not need to say Yes to this and they have had their application delayed because they filled in the wrong answer so I would like to avoid that mistake.
Thanks so much for the help!
