Not the only gay in the village indeed!

We are expecting some gay specific questions (like why I've never interacted with the husband's family - they're homophobic AF and so he's not even out to them)

It does make you extra nervous!

Not the only ones by a long shot. We're a lesbian couple. The IO was very nice, and made sure she addressed us in a way we preferred since she "normally uses Sir and Ma'am, but that wouldn't work for you".

I was estranged from both my parents (not really because of outright homophobia, but relationships are frequently complicated), plus they both passed away in the last few years. My wife doesn't talk to her father. But her mother and my brother have visited us, and I've stayed at her sister's place in another state. We were each asked each other's parents' names, and she bungled my mother's. Then, when I knew her father's, my wife was surprised I even knew it and said to the IO "we don't talk about him". It was all fine.

The IO liked print-outs of chat logs around wedding planning, ring buying, asking a friend to be a witness etc.. Our wedding was really small, 10 people and a trip to a tapas restaurant afterwards, but even that generates an electronic trail. I'd put this in the pack if you have a chance, otherwise bring it to the interview.

My husband is not out to his parents or friends. Only one friend knows. He is from Malaysia, where this just happened. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/03/w...n-shariah.html I am sure the US will soon see an increase in asylum applications from Malaysian citizens.

Don't dance around the subject. USCIS has seen more than we think. They even deal with arranged marriages. That's something not everyone can get their heads around.

I know the names of my husband's parents because we filled out all the forms. He is not out. I am not expecting to ever be introduced as his husband. That's not important to me. The least people weighing in on my life, the better.
