Hi Guys, I sent in my application over 2 weeks ago and last week, I got an RFE as follows "The joint sponsor must submit a complete federal income tax returns submitted to the IRS for the most recent tax year". I looked through the document filed and realised that this was sent to them already. I sent a tax returns for 2017 for my sponsor. I called and the rep asked me to send again. What do you think is wrong here guys?

It must be rather frustrating that they are asking for something that you have already sent. While I never received a RFE, If I were you I would send what they requested and , if possible, the past 3-5years of returns (read instruction page for form I864).

All the best. And make sure you respond ASAP !!!

We can only guess what happened and why they ask for it again.

The best sand a IRS transcript (very easy, just sign up on their site and request it) you don't have to pay fee to do this.

I'm about to send my application in soon so I am trying to be really careful about the I864 and actually waiting on my tax receipts.

What documents have you sent in? W2, 1040EZ and/or 1099?

I think they might be asking for the IRS transcripts (go to the IRS.gov and click on tax records, there is an online option).

It's possible that W2s or 1099s are missing.

Agreed! In cases like this, I suggest you think of two aspects: a) the USCIS sometimes loses documents. If they aren't in the file any longer, the officer will send an RFE for them. So don't double-guess... b) Some part may be missing. Always, always go back to the "instructions" document that goes with the document you're concerned with. (In this case, the I-864 Instructions.) Read the whole relevant passage, and scan the entire document, because a relevant bit may have escaped your notice.

In this case, see p. 8. for currently employed sponsors who want to qualify by providing their most recent tax return. Image below.
