  • NBC Field Office April Filers

    Hello everyone,
I really pray this post will get responses because I am at my lowest point now. I do not know what I did wrong and why my application is taking long.
It has been 158 days as of today that I filed my I-765 and 180 days for I-485. The only update I got on both cases is a courtesy letter that I got on Tuesday Sept 11th requesting I bring my I-693 to the I-485 interview which has not even been scheduled. Does this mean the process will speed up now?
I have an approved I-130 which I attached to the documents when filing. I am filing from Chicago NBC.

Please please help share your experience or give me much needed advice or encouragement.

    Thanks

I don't think you've done anything wrong. I'm on Day 147 and still waiting for my EAD and AP, so we're in a similar situation. The USCIS timings for EAD is 4.5 to 6.5 months, so your application is still in a normal processing timeline according to them. The current case inquiry date for EAD is March 18, 2018. Keep checking the site, and if you still haven't received your EAD by the time that this reaches your priority date, then you can submit a case inquiry to ask where your EAD is.

The 485 is going to take WAY longer. You have to wait for an interview slot to open up at your local field office, and some offices have up to a two year wait.

You can check the currrent timings and submit a case inquiry here: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

I'd also recommend that you sign up for updates on both the USCIS and DHS sites. These sites give you more detailed updates about where you case is at. You should register on both sites, as they give different updates to each other (why, we do not know).

View case status online using your receipt number, which can be found on notices that you may have received from USCIS. Also, sign up for Case Status Online to: . Receive automatic case status updates by email or text message, . View your case history and upcoming case activities, . Check the status of multiple cases and inquiries that you may have submitted to USCIS

Unfortunately, there is nothing else to do but wait. The immigration process has definitely taught me that patience is a virtue

    Good luck!

I just reread that you're in Chicago. The timeline for an interview here is 11.5 months to 25.5 months, so it could take anywhere from 1 year to over two years. Nothing to do but breathe and relax

Well, hang in there. "fingerprint review completed" is a status update that happens before your scheduled for interview. Whoever has your file, bothered to update it. We only found out the background checks had cleared, because we called and asked a level 2 rep.

Thank you so much for all the information and your words of encouragement. I will keep waiting. It is just frustrating to keep counting the days and getting absolutely no update or information regarding your application.
I have account with: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/displayLogon.do but it still shows "case has been received" and nothing else.

How do I know when they start processing applications filed in April?
Also I keep reading in this forum about people who filed say May getting their EAD mailed to them. Please do you have any idea why this is so?

            Thanks

I'd recommend that you register on the DHS site as well. The USCIS site shows my 765 application as only "Case has been received", but the DHS shows the fingerprint review as being completed.

They are already processing April applications. They seem to be working in general date order, but not in absolute order of date. It may be a case that someone took a May box off the shelf first instead of an April box - who knows!

Luckily, it's just off by a month. Unlike what happened with the glitch earlier this year. They stopped scheduling interviews for folks who had filed in 2017 and skipped all the way to scheduling interviews for 2018 filers. Go figure...

YES! And good, I am happy for everyone who got a green card in or around 90 days. People who filed for family based AOS were being scheduled for employment based AOS interviews. Eventually, USCIS caught on to it because folks kept calling USCIS frantically asking if their interview was a mistake etc. YES...
So fortunately, they resumed with 2017 cases. The fact that it happened and it went on for months, is just terrible.

Thank you for the support and advice. I just created an account. There was a little difference in that the I-485 is showing fingerprint review was completed. The I-765 is still same update as shown in https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/displayLogon.do

I check for updates almost every hour a day. It is frustrating. I will try to take my mind of this because it is driving me crazy.

I'd recommend that you register on the DHS site as well. The USCIS site shows my 765 application as only "Case has been received", but the DHS shows the fingerprint review as being completed.

I just registered right now. There was a difference only in my I-485 which is now showing "fingerprint review completed". Thanks for this suggestion.

I am so glad to read this. So many of my plans have been altered already like resigning from my previous job because expedition request was denied. All the same, I hope everything goes well, and my career does not suffer major set backs.

Good! And that's fine! Now you have a two fishing rods fishing for you. When an update becomes available, you will know. Often times people miss interview notices. Hang in there.
