  • Interview Complete - Chicago Field Office

    Hi everybody,

I just want to post an update and share my experience of the interview.

A little bit of background: my PD is 7/9/18. I received my interview notice early in September, and my interview date is today on 10/4/18, 8AM. I am in Chicago, so went to the Chicago field office. My husband is a USC, and we married in May 2018. Before that we dated about two years. I have been in the US for about ten years now, and am currently on H1B visa. Neither of us was married before. Neither of us had any children.

We arrived around 7:30am, and after the security check probably got to the waiting area around 7:40. We got called in around 8:15, and stayed in the IO's office for about 20 min. The conversation was pretty casual, and the IO was very friendly and made jokes here and there during the conversation. He went through our filing, and asked to see a couple of the original copies (passport, birth certificate, drivers' licenses).
Questions asked to both of us:
    - Have you married before?
    - Do you have any children?
    Questions asked to husband:
    - When and how did you meet?
    - When did you decide to get married?
    Questions asked to me:
    - Are you still working at xxx (my current employer)?
    - When did you last enter the US?
    - How did you decide on the wedding venue?
    - How did you find your officiant?
    - How many people were at the wedding?

That's about all the questions he asked. He then told us that he will give the file to his supervisor for review, since he doesn't have the authority to make the call on the spot. He gave us a letter basically saying the case is under review, and no further information needed from us. He said we should get something in the mail.

Overall I feel pretty good about the interview. We had everything he asked for and answered all the questions. I just don't know how long that wait is going to be, now that it is under review again. I know some people get approved on the spot, but I guess we'd have to wait. I will provide updates once I hear back from them. Does anybody else have the same experience where they got this held for review letter after the interview? How long did you wait for the decision?

Thank you all for your help!

Hope you get your GC soon!

We had a lady IO and she was very strict but professional. Later on Houston FB group we figured out that a quit a few of us were interviewed by her and all of us had verbal "you will have a decision within 120 days" and most of us were approved same day or within reasonable time.
One couple were with a lawyer and they asked for supervisor, and for a letter stated "case is still under review", they were told, that the officer is new. I guess like in your case, she didn't have an authorities to make a decision by herself.
That couple is still waiting after interview for more than a month, no RFE, no updates, i guess the supervisor didn't like to be asked. Hope they also get their card soon.
