  • Background check for job without SSN

I applied for a job and got the offer (yay!). The offer is contingent on a background check and drug test. They sent me a link for the background check authorization form, I filled it out and in the SSN space I input 000-00-000. They emailed me asking for the SSN and copy of the Driver License. I emailed the DL but explained I am adjusting status and I am currently waiting for the SSN/EAD. I offered to provide them with the receipt notice for the EAD as proof that USCIS received my case.

That was an hour ago and they didn?t reply yet. Is it possible for them to rescind the offer because I don?t have a SSN yet? I thought I?m only required to provide the employment authorization on the first day on the job, which is mid-November. I want to expedite my EAD based on this job offer. Does anyone have any experience with jobs requiring background checks when there?s no SSN? Can they perform it without it?
RoC (I-751) Application, filed from Houston TX
10/24/2021 - USPS delivered the package in AZ
10/27/2021 - Text from USCIS with receipt number, check cashed. Assigned to the Texas Processing Center

INITIAL AOS from F-1, married to USC, filed in Seattle WA

09/24/2018 - Package delivered to PO Box (PD)
    10/22 - Early bio walk-in
11/15 - New card is being produced (I-765)
    11/26 - EAD combo & SS card
    01/13/2020 - Interview
01/23/2020 - Case Approved, Card Mailed.

I think it might be best for you to call. Whoever is dealing with your application is probably confused. According to this document, they may still run a background check if a SSN is not available. https://www.corelogic.com/downloadab...ithout-ssn.pdf

Explain to them that you are currently expediting your EAD. They should understand. I would even do it in person.

From what I searched online, an SSN is not required for a background check, although it?s useful because it provides more in-depth information. This is a big national company and I?ve been in touch with their Background Check Division. They said something about needing to run an International background check.

Yup, they should be able to run just fine.
