  • Expedited EAD thread

I haven't found a recent thread for those who expedited their EAD in the past few months so I created this one. I got a job offer with a starting date of November 12 and expedited my EAD via phone on October 17. On October 18 I received an email from USCIS to fax the job offer. I faxed it immediately (twice, to be sure) with a cover letter briefly explaining why this job is a great, rare opportunity for me, etc. I have not received anything back from them on the matter. My Congressman's office submitted a request on my behalf on October 18, too.

This morning I got status updates for the I-131, which kinda threw me off. DHS status shows that "document was mailed to you". I did not request to expedite the AP, so I have no idea what it means, if it's a system glitch or actually the Advance Parole document.

Please share your recent EAD expedite experience. Thanks.

My Congressman?s office submitted a request on my behalf on October 18 and today they received this email from USCIS:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding this constituent?s immigration matter. We have requested the file and it will be reviewed by an officer once we receive the file. Your constituent should receive a decision or notice of other action within 30 days of the date of this notice.

Did any of you get the same update? How long from now should I expect my approval?

        How does EAD Expedite work?

If anyone can please clear some questions:

        1. How do I Expedite? let's say I have a job offer.
        2. Is it just calling USCIS and they will ask me to fax the job offer and from that point just wait?
        3. If they approve the expedite, and originally I filled for AP too, will i get the combo card? or just the work permit?
        4. If I get just the work permit, i will get a seperate card/letter for the AP later on?

        Thanks in advance!

          1. Call USCIS and ask them to place a request for you. Optional: ask your congressman/senator to do it as well.
          2. Yes.
          3. Maybe. They could approve just the EAD or combo.
          4. The AP is a letter. If they don?t issue the combo card, you will get an AP letter.

I'm about 60 days since PD. would it be a bad idea to expedite now?

I don?t see why it would be a bad idea if you have a job offer and meet the criteria. I expedited mine less than 30 days after the PD.

It's not a bad idea to expedite. You're in NYC and the field offices there have huge backlogs. You want to get your hands on that combo card ASAP. By the way, to ensure that you get a combo card, you should request to expedite both the I-765 and I-131. You will only provide evidence for the I-765 - job offer/financial hardship.

It has happened that folks get an EAD card that is not a combo card which serves as advance parole.

You can call now. You do not have to wait until you have the evidence available. Ask them to email you their response. Sometimes they choose to mail it, which takes longer, of course.

This morning I got an email from USCIS saying:

We received your documents in support of your request to expedite the decision on your application. Your case is currently under review. You will receive a decision or notice of further action shortly.

And the online status of the I-765 got another update saying:

On October 24, 2018, your request to have your case expedited, referral number T1 **** MSC, was completed.

This request will most likely get denied because you haven?t done your biometrics yet. You?ll have to expedite again after your bio appointment.

I still have 1.5 years left until graduation. So here is the story. I applied to ONE job just for the kicks because I was sure they won?t even get back to me since I do not have any degree yet and I am also very young (21). To my surprise, they called me the next day to schedule an interview with the manager. I went there and honestly bullsh*ted my way through. The job is within the field of my degree, so I?m not clueless but I have zero work experience. At the end, they asked for my salary expectation and I said ?$50k?. Again, I was sure they won?t pay $50k to someone who didn?t even graduate. To my utter surprise, two days later I?m invited to another interview with the stakeholders and some other managers. It went well. Next day I got a phone call from HR offering me the position for the salary I requested. I was flabbergasted (and still am). I accepted it and got the ball rolling on the EAD. Now I am praying to get it before my start date.

You don?t have to wait until graduation but it really depends on your skills and the jobs you want. Good luck!

Good luck!
Will your f1 status will be lost if you start working base on EAD from adjustment of status? So can you continue to go to school or not? And one more question, sorry I am so clueless with what to do rn 😭, when you applied those jobs, did you mention your status at all like f1 student or pending?
                              Many thanks for your help.
