  • Does the courtesy letter show up as an RFE in case status?

I have not submitted a medical exam with the initial filing and have not received the courtesy letter yet. Today my status for the I-485 changed to ?Request for Initial Evidence was mailed?. Can that be the courtesy letter or an actual RFE? For those who received the courtesy letter, did you status update to RFE sent?

I am kind of bummed because I am trying to have my EAD expedited and I read that an RFE on I-485 automatically puts the EAD expedite request on hold, too.

It has happened a few times. I do not have a link to support my statement, but I have read of a few times that's happened.

Just wait and see, my friend.

Are phone reps able to see what the RFE is?

Naaaawww... they consider that ?confidential information?. Best bet is to get an info pass appointment or wait for RFE to show up in the mail.

Level 2 and up, yes. Level 1 sees what you see at home.

In my case, there were no updates/alerts; it just arrived in mail. Maybe your RFE is about the accompanying I-864. Did you submit the IRS Transcript? If not, it could be that. You can request for it now online so it's ready when your RFE arrives. Or, it could be for foreign birth certificate translations. We'll know soon enough.

From what I've read, yes, I believe so. Here's a screenshot of an excerpt from a stakeholder call with USCIS, USPS and the Ombudsman:

Thanks. Well, I have no idea what else could be besides the medical. I submitted the birth certificate and the translated copy. Also the tax transcripts of my husband. I guess I am in for the suspense

Help filing I-765 under pending I-140

I have pending I-140 NIW. Now am applying for I-765, I-485 for EAD+AP. My wife had EAD as J2 visa status, her EAD application is pending now. What I can write in form I-765 now for pending NIW case:
                    1) Permission to accept employment? or Renewal of my permission to accept employment?
                    2) Have you previously filed Form I-765? (Do need to write yes and mention about EAD she has as J2 visa status)
                    3) Her category will be same as mine (c) (9) ?
