  • Birth certificate again?

I got a letter asking for further information for my green card application and they asked for a copy of my birth certificate. I had already included this in my initial package. I am wondering why they would ask for it again?

Is this an original birth certificate you have or one that you got from your consulate?

If it is from the consulate you might need to get one from your country (your parents should get it and mail it to you. Also you they should scan & email it to you while you are waiting for it so you can get a certified translation in US).

I just photocopied my original birth certificate I had at home. Maybe they want to actual original document but that makes me a bit nervous to send that.

Did you include an official translation with it? Is it in your native language?

I don't why they asked you that BC again but i think it depends on officer who is reviewing the applicant case ! I got rfe of birth certifiacate last week I don't have the original birth certificate that was given at the time that i was born but i have one that applied for in 2014 ! I just orderded a profession translation and certifified from *** and then notified through my bank ! USPS delived it 11/14/2018 and then 11/15/18 my status update to RESPONSE TO USCIS'S request of evidence received and that the office will begin working on my case again !

            Good luck !

I don't think they would want you to send them your original copy cause they might keep it. They only requested the original at the interview. and when i had my interview they did not check any of my original documents the only thing they took from me was my business registration from my country and copy it and return it to me at the interview, with that said it does not mean that when you have your interview you should not bring the original documents incase they ask for it. They might request another copy because they've lost the copy you sent in from filing.

They might require a certified copy of your birth certificate. You can get it from the vital records office located in the state you were born or you can order it online on third party websites like ****

No they don't need the original. I got RFE for the same reason.
This what i did with my lawyer:

1)Resend the copy of your birth certificate with the translation. (She included a letter stating that we submitted the document original and highlighted the important parts of it since it is quite long)
Note: Make sure it is in the original paper size. They don't want smaller or bigger version of it.

2)Send any additional proof of your birth.
I added 2 additional documents such as hospital bill/proof and a baptized proof. Both stating the date I was born and who the mother is.

                  Good luck.

@kathleen86 Perhaps USCIS wants a birth certificate from what they deem as the appropriate civil authority of your country of birth. Check this link out to find your country's authority https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...y-Country.html

I also had an RFE requesting my birth certificate. I had only submitted my birth registration which they found insufficient. Also, submit secondary evidence such as notarized affidavits from your parents, birth, school records etc. Good luck

Never send original documents as you may never get them back. But send clear colored copies.

whether you are looking forward to a leisurely time ahead in the beaches of California, or you are a scholar looking to study in the best colleges in the US, or you are a entrepreneur looking to invest in a forthcoming venture in China, you require a visa. However, for the Visa application, the USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) states the documentation should be in English.
