  • Translation for Personal Correspondence?

What would you recommend for including personal correspondence between Petitioner and Beneficiary in a concurrent filing of I-130/I-485 if it is in another language? Is it necessary to have a certified translation for this evidence or is simply knowing that there is correspondence between the two sufficient? Nearly all of our ******** messages are in Spanish from 2013 to 2017, and I would like to include some of them for the supporting documentation for proof of bona fide marriage. Thanks for your help.

You don?t have to pay for the translation. You can just ask someone to translate it. Or you may translate it yourself and then ask someone to verify that the translation is accurate and then sign it.

I think ******** messages now have the option to translate Spanish/English. Don?t have ********. You?d have to double check that

For personal correspondence, my husband and I translated in the margins of the page, nothing fancy and nothing "official". That being said, all our messages between us are in English, so we only needed to translate the messages between me and his mom (wishing us happy valentine's day, me wishing her happy mother's day, sharing baby photos, etc. just to show that we are family) and messages between him & his friends congratulating him on the marriage.

I think you are fine translating yourself, esp. if the messages contain emojis/symbols. I think the key is to show correspondence over a period of time, rather than the content.

Thank you both for your suggestions and examples. I will translate the messages and have a friend certify them. This should be sufficient, I believe.
