  • Green card in Maiden name

If you get your green card in your maiden name, because you filled your i485 in your maiden name and during the interview, you didn’t remember to inform the officer that you want the card in your married name, what do you do after you receive the free card?

You can keep your green card in your maiden name. My wife is from the Philippines. in her country you have to report the marriage and then change your passport. We didn't do that so her passport and green card are in her maiden name. We use them for travel purposes only. Her SSN and Real ID are in her married name. No conflicts anywhere. She will change her name when she Naturalizes in 2 and a half years.

You can contact USCIS and change to your marriage name. After that you can change SSN card and Driver license with marriage name.

To get a replacement GC is over $400 and USCIS takes forever to issue cards and schedule interviews. She might as well utilize the name for now...
