  • Medical Exam Orange County, CA

    Hi,

Can anyone share their experiences about civil surgeons in the OC area, also about how much you paid total?
I know some threads already exist about this in the forum but they are all fairly old and I'm looking for more current info.

    Thank you!

It will be least expensive if you have your immunization records. The price starts going up the second they need to do blood levels of immunity and administer shots.

I'm in NJ and have just completed my medical. I too didn't have any immunization records and it cost me about $900. The medical itself was $200. I had to have 4 jabs because of my age (66) which were flu, pneumonia, tet**** and HepB which came to $440 and then I had to have blood tests and a urine sample to prove I was immune to god knows what which was $275.
        Hope this helps.

Immunizations do not need to be administered by a civil surgeon, you can provide immunization records to the civil surgeon showing proof.

When I looked for a civil surgeon for my AOS medical I asked them what immunizations were required and they gave me a list which I then took to my primary care physician (I had health care through my USC wife) and he administered all the vaccinations I needed which I didn't have (which were free of charge on my health insurance) and provided me with a printout of my full immunization records to provide to the cilvil surgeon. They took my Drs records and just transcribed the information to the AOS medical forms.

I am in Los Angeles (just outside Pasadena) and found a local Dr on the civil surgeons list that did my medical for AOS for $155 (I just verified the cost in my records). This was around the end of 2016 as I filed my application in January 2017.

There were zero issues with my medical during the AOS process.

I called around checking a few Doctors on the civil surgeons website until I found this one. I asked them questions about cost and a few other things before settling on that one. The price variance between different Doctors on the civil surgeons list can be very large.

If you have insurance, you can just get titers (blood levels of immunity). It is more expensive if the Civil surgeon does it. You can just go to your primary care physician and get everything done and covered by your insurance.

Is there a chance that anyone could send you the records? They don't have to be original record of each immunization. It can just be a copy of your medical chart that lists all your immunizations.

Are titers usuall covered by insurance? I do believe I got all the vaccines but my old doctor back in my home country doesn’t exist anymore so it will be hard to track my record down (my mom is trying right now tho).

I am pretty sure that they are billed to insurance as part of a physical. You will have to call your plan and ask. They will tell you. It is definitely cheaper to get the titers first and then go see the Civil surgeon who will basically just fill out the form.

Sometimes Civil surgeons will agree to fill out the form and charge for a yearly physical or a consultation fee if you have your immunization paperwork. It is worth calling around.

you might also contact a CVS minute clinic to see how much they would charge if you have insurance, for me in particular I have a plan that still(by the Grace of God) uses co-pays so it costs the same to go to a primary care and an Urgent care center. so see if they administer them and that might be a less expensive and quicker route for you.
This is strictly an opinion and should not be misconstrued as legal advice. The use of this information is strictly at your own risk.
