  • Interview soon but I-693 is not available

My GC interview is scheduled for 12/18. However, I-693 for my son is not yet available. We have been following up with the doctor again and again, and my son has provided blood samples thrice already. But it seems that the lab has screwed up twice and has not yet reverted as promised on the latest one. Now we have just one working day left and facing real possibility of not having his I-693 ready on time.

By the way, I-693 forms for self and spouse are ready.

What are my options? My lawyer has not yet responded to the latest entreaty.

It sounds like you may have to go to a different civil surgeon who is capable of getting everything accomplished between tomorrow and Monday - since the interview is on Tuesday.

Remember that blood tests do not have to be done by the civil surgeon - unless it's the one for TB. You would have to double check on that.

I know of someone who went to the interview. The I-693 had a minor detail that was not clear to the Officer. Fortunately, this officer, by the grace of God, told the couple to go to the civil surgeon and correct the issue and bring the I-693 right back to them. They were approved on the spot or shortly after.

The worst that can happen is that the Officer issues a RFE, but that will just delay everything. Please provide more info. Where are you located? You may be able find a civil surgeon who can get it all done ASAP.

Problem is that there is other stuff in 693 which the civil surgeon (assuming I can find one) will be able to handle. Also, we have to select the doctor from the list of approved surgeons. This was the doctor who gave us the earliest appointment.

Mine is an EB1c case, located in Jacksonville, FL. I think I can live with an RFE since the date is not current anyway. The case will go in cold storage after the interview I think. My only worry is a denial based on this. I read somewhere that nowadays scrutiny is very strict and denial percentage has increased a lot.

By the way, this is our second I-693. We provided one when we applied but that was over a year ago. Interview letter clearly mentions to bring in fresh I-693 if previous one was done over an year ago.

Ok, I am glad you mentioned this. The rules have changed. If you file for AOS within 60 days of completing the I-693, and include the I-693 with your AOS application, then it is valid for 2 years.

Where can I find this rule change? My interview notice was generated in November and it clearly states the following under items must to bring:

          - A completed medical examination (Form I-693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope (unless already submitted within the last year).

So if there was a rule change it can only have happened since then.

I did a concurrent filing in May 2017, and included I-693 then. So it was last submitted over a year ago.

Google is your best friend. Here you go. https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/us...-manual-update

Sign up for alerts. You will get an email every time there is a change in policy, which may or may not apply to you. But it's good to stay informed.

Thank you. I did go through this link. The new policy was effective from November 1st. However, seems only I-693 forms submitted after 60 days before 11/1/2018 will stay valid for 2 years. All forms submitted more than 60 days before 11/1/2018 will be valid only for a year. So this doesn't work for me.

Regardless, thank you for your help. I will be calling some other surgeons tomorrow and will camp out at earlier surgeon's clinic on Monday. If nothing works out, we will go without the form and see what happens.
