  • birth certificate translation?

I'm getting certified english translations for my foreign wife's birth certificate.
Do I need to send this in when filing for i-485? or just a copy of the certified translation?
Do I need to also bring with me to the interview a certified translation or just a copy of it?
So how many certified translations do I need to get in total? 1 or 2 or more?
    Thanks.

I believe for the I-485 (and all other forms actually), at the time of initial application, you only send in copies of all documents (i.e. copies of certified translations, copies of bank statements, copies of receipts, copies of I-94, passports, etc.). Whenever you will receive the interview appointment letter, it is specified clearly that for the interview you will have to take with you all original documents for which you provided copies initially. It is also mentioned somewhere in the I-485 instructions that if you send in original documents, they might keep them.

I only sent in copies of everything at the time I filed for AOS, and took all original documents with us for our interview. The IO didn't ask for any originals, but you must have them with you in case they want another copy or just take a look at it.

I believe for your case, one certified translation would suffice, but just to be sure, you can request to have more.
