updating ssn after greecard

Sorry if this doesn't belong to this part of the forum.
Today I decided to go and update my social security. I had social which had the restriction "only valid with dhs". I had to file an application, did it and presented my green card (also brought my approval letter) and my social card. Was told to wait by the person who got my case, after a while I was told that the status was not linked yet. And that I had to wait, because they have to confirm my new status.

Is there a waiting period, did I had to wait some time so my status was updated? or this is standard.

Yup, that's standard. The agencies do not share the same system; contrary to popular belief. E-verify is a good gauge. Wait a couple of weeks and attempt to e-verify with your green card and SSN. If you are able to, then the SSA probably has the updated info.

You can also just wait for 4 weeks. Truth is that you do not need the new Social Security Card for anything. To show eligibility for employment authorization, all you have to do is show your green card. That's it.
