  • Why is San Diego a lot faster?

I checked the wait time for I-485 in every field office and noted that San Diego had a significantly shorter wait time. Also, they are already processing 2018 applications while all other offices are still dealing with 2016 and 2017 applications.

For background, I just filed I-130(USC born in the US), I-485, I-130A, I-864, I-765 and I-131 in NYC.

We actually plan to move to SoCal, where my wife is from, after I get my green card. So I am wondering if we should move now since NYC seems to be very slow.

Speed of processing I imagine can have many variables, such as the number of applications, the number of officers at work, potential system glitches throwing a ranch in the order of processing (see notes from USCFFS on the matter), complication of the cases, efficiency of the officers processing, etc etc.

It seems to me it is up to you if you want to move sooner or not. I would expect it depends on more than just the speed of the green card processing. For example job, housing, possibly schooling of kids, friendships, family. I think you are the best suited to determine if moving easy is a good option.

Thanks. Very helpful. I have scheduled a call with a lawyer in SD to ask this.
