  • is AP combo card valid after AOS interview ?

Me and my wife are planning to travel to Mexico this June 2019.

We filed for AOS AP and EAD on September 24th 2018

Currently we are at 109 days since we submitted.
We are hoping to hear by March on AP and EAD.
I don’t think we will have any issues obtaining these.

My only question is if the AP is valid after the AOS interview?

My local office where my I-485 will be processed is San Antonio, Texas. Their processing times are 9-17.5 months for I-485. The 9th month would be this June 2019. We plan to travel for a wedding on June 29th 2019 which is a Saturday. Knowing my luck our AOS interview would be the day before.

Even if our interview is early June i have heard it takes a couple of weeks to get the green card in hand or might not be approved during the interview.

Could we travel after the AOS interview and come back with a Valid AP since its valid for 1 year.

Generally, your Combo Card is valid as long as your I-485 is pending. If they haven't made a decision after your interview, your card should still be valid. I haven't heard or read any post about anyone tried to travel outside of country after the AOS interview but before any decision made. I wouldn't take that risk if I were you. To be on the safe side, you can wait till you receive the green card or travel before the AOS interview. You should consult an attorney or make an Infopass with USCIS if you absolutely need to travel.

      Hi,

Just a question about your timeline.
Did your EAD/AP was approved based on the expedition? or on the normal process?

I think it was approved based on the expedition. The congresswoman office sent me a response from USCIS that my case had been routed for expedition on 1/7. On the same day, I received a case update that "new card is being produced". I knew that USCIS might review my case any time soon since I had already waited for 5 months. I just couldn't wait anymore and didn't want to try my luck as the start date on my job offer is 1/28. Hope that answers your question.
