I-485 Expedite for College Applications

So my kid is about to start his college applications, and I was also filing I-485, but it would take about one year to get green card in hand that way. Not having green card would really hurt his chances at most universities. Is it possible to get our application expedited so he can get green card before submitting college applications?

You'd need pretty compelling evidence to prove one of the below regarding your son's green card application. I'm not sure if college applications will meet any of them, but maybe if you hit the right person with the right sob story, you'll get through.

-Severe financial loss to company or person;
-Emergency situation;
-Humanitarian reasons;
-Nonprofit organization whose request is in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States;
-Department of Defense or national interest situation (These particular expedite requests must come from an official U.S. government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to the government.);
-USCIS error; or
-Compelling interest of USCIS.

Would it be possible to study if you had filed the work permit? My wife is on the same hot. She wants to study college and I believe if she has her permit she might be able to attend college. I still have to go talk to the school campus. But only downside is she needs to enroll and pay the international feels is my understanding.

Pending 485 may do the work. depends on the school. But she might not get financial aids.
