  • Can birth certificate have married last name instead of maiden name?

My mother does not have the birth certificate to apply for I-485. So we provided all the necessary documents for the authorities in India to re-register the birth and provide the certificate. But they say that they can only issue the certificate with the name as it is shown in the passport, which is the married last name (same as my dad). Aren't these birth certificates produced with the maiden name? Can USCIS accept the birth certificate that is issued recently and with married last name on it instead of maiden name?

    Please help!

    Thanks.

Hey i dont think you need to worry about that .just tell them her parents didnt register her birth and never had to use it until .if you can get Non availability certificate with her maiden name just to show they dont have her registered in that municipality/town/city .

Hello Kammie, i am having the same dilemma as you. In fact my mother's recently issued BC has her married name. Not sure if this will work.

Were you able to find a solution to your problem? Would really appreciate if you can respond.

      Thank you.
