  • renewal of my advance parol

    Hi community!

I am applying for the family greencard (application date 10/23/17)

While I am still waiting for my interview date (since 10/03/2018), I've realized my advance parole is going to expire in 120 day. I understand that this is now the time to apply for its extension.
My lawyer asks for $150 application fee, but I wanted to know if this might be something so simple that I can do it myself? If so, can someone point me out towards the forms, and maybe even towards an explenation of how to do it myself?

I'd love to save $150, but if you think it might cause me any trouble I'll just go and pay.

    Thank you all!!!

    Form I-131

You can download and take a look at that form.

Also our attorney here in Chicago quoted us $800 to renew my wife's EAD/AP (I-765/I-131 forms).

What a ripoff! I downloaded both forms and used a PDF editor to enter the data.

PS. Our PD is 10/27/2017 and still no interview scheduled.

woahhhh waiting for an interview for 16 months ???? Sorry to hear that :/ they are the worst.

Would you be able to direct me to the form online and give me a short rundown on how to feel it? I am a bit nervous about doing it myself :0

Use this form to apply for travel documents, parole documents, or arrival/departure records.

Here is what you need. You do NOT need to pay your lawyer $150 to complete ONE form. Read the instructions clearly and ask any questions you may have here on this forum. Hundreds of people here have done it on their own and are willing to help.

          1. A completed and signed form i-131 - you can download from here https://www.uscis.gov/i-131
          2. A copy of your pending i-485 receipt notice.
          3. Two identical passport-style photographs of yourself taken within 30 days of the filing of this application

Thank you for that! Will this work both for my travel and for my work approvals or do I need to file something else as well?

No you need to file i-765 as well for EAD(work permit). The evidence is the same copy of your pending i-485 receipt notice and 2 passport size pictures.

I did everything myself. i-485 spousal (filed 02/28/2018) and also the EAD/AP the renewal. If you have your previous i-765 and i-131 forms you can just copy the entries made there and follow the directions given in other threads on this board (which I did).

If you fall under certain categories your EAD will automatically be renewed for 180 days with the receipt letter for your renewal application (i-797C)

But please note that for example in my situation I filed 120 days ahead of my expiration date on the combo card (07/19/2019) and now it seems that I won't receive my renewed Advance Parole on time as it currently lists processing times of 6-8 months. It's totally messed up. My Wife and I have a Euro Trip planned and booked in August and it now seems that we won't be able to go.

I spoke to USCIS Tier 1 on the phone and they told me there is currently no guarantee of a continuous coverage via AP while waiting for an interview.
Will post another thread about this specific issue in a bit.

I am waiting a similar time. We also moved last December. Immediately changed our address and got confirmation. A few weeks ago the interview invite came.
It ended up being sent from NYC field office where we used to live. That field office had never received the address change and transferred my file to my new field office.
All that is being done now and there is no statement how long a transfer will take and how much longer our interview will be delayed because of what I consider to be clearly their mistake.

I got an interview invite to my old home address 6 months after i moved states back in December 2018. Despite the fact that they confirmed in writing that I had properly notified them of my change of address. Then they told me if we show up for the interview at our old place they would send us away (Why? If it's them that made the mistake?)
Now my file is being transferred and the waiting starts again. It is a huge mess. No accountability for USCIS whatsoever.

Steeevyo : Sorry to hear that. I moved residences in Nov 2018 too, but I moved within the same state - from Mountain View CA to San Francisco CA. My lawyer told me that moving addresses affects processing time. We had actually moved from Brooklyn, NY to Mountain View, CA in March 2018, and only filed after we moved into our new apartment in CA. Did you have USPS Mail Forwarding enabled? I'm afraid that my notice may be sent to me old address also, even though I've signed up for mail forwarding.
