  • Traveling in US/AOS Pending

    Hello Everyone!

I think I have seen this question partially answered, but before we book any flights, I thought I would make sure.

Will there be any problems for my husband and I to fly within the US while his AOS is pending? We were planning on taking a copy of the I-485 receipt letter, should we take anything else?

I appreciate any input on this!

If he has his I-485 receipt with him he should be fine.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

I've been traveling inside USA for many years (more than 30). They always tell you that you must travel with some document that show that you are legal (visa usually). Up to this date I have only shown my legal status at POE (land or airport) and to get DL.

I have traveled with new passport and old passport with visa and for travel inside USA they only take a look at valid new passport and never asked for old passport with visa. Since having DL, I have traveled with that without issues.

In short, he must have a valid ID and bring a copy of the I-485 NOA just in case.

I traveled to East Coast from SF a couple times last year.
Just have him take his new DL or valid passport with him.
        He?s going to be fine.

No problem at all, I?m in AOS pending and I carry my i485 receipt notice and no one has asked for it, always show my Mexican passport. Doesn?t matter if travel in mainland or Hawaii or Puerto Rico, you?ll be fine 😉
