  • USPS mess - Interview notice never received.

    Hey all,

Feeling a little sick to my stomach at this moment. Hoping someone can provide some guidance on what is the best to do in this situation, as I have read a few conflicting reports.

I moved while I was waiting for my interview notice (same building, different apartment). My SO and myself both did change of address forms with USPS. Her's worked perfectly, though I never seemed to get mail. I do not really get any mail so I did not think anything of it. One day some guy from a church a half mile away messages me on FB and says he is getting my mail at the church.

Sure enough they were getting my mail and my redirect notice for some reason had them sending mail to an entirely different address. Looks like my interview notice was among that mail being inexplicably delivered to an entirely different address (like, not even the same street or street numbers). Now on my case status page it says:

' No one came to the appointment, and this will significantly affect your case. We will mail you a notice if we make a decision or take further action.'

Of course, I fully expect to be denied if they think I simply did not show up.

Here the thing, I could NOT change my address online with USCIS because they would not recognize my address through their system, so I had to mail in the physical copy (did that in october), I also called USCIS in late January 19 to make sure they processed the address change, after I noticed it said my interview had been scheduled. The lady I talked to did not say an interview notice was sent to me at this time from my field office and I should expect to receive one from them shortly. Never got anything.

    Just to summarize:
-Received in mail docs from USCIS saying they received my application. Received EAD. Address was GOOD.
    -Moved apartments in same building
-Notified USCIS about move through mail with proper form (online address change form would not recognize my new address, I think because the building is so new) OCT 2018.
-Filled out change of address request with USPS
-Noticed in Mid january online case status had updated to Interview scheduled
-Concerned that I never received anything I called USCIS to confirm that they had received my mailed changed of address. USCIS agent said they had received it, but also went ahead and changed my address in the system again. The email receipt from this interaction is dated jan 30th. She also said I should receive some sort of confirmation in the mail. Never received anything. I have a COA Conf #.
-Randomly was contacted by administrator of a local church (at totally different address blocks away from my home) saying they are receiving my mail and have been for some time.
-Head to church, admin says there was a letter from USCIS but it was RTS.
-Head to USPS, ask why my mail is being delivered to an entirely different address. They basically say it is a freak occurrence. And say they have fixed it.
    - Today, about two weeks later, I check my case status and it says I missed the interview and that basically it will impact my negatively while they make their decision.
-Called USCIS, talked to level 1 guy and explained the situation. He said he will put in a service request for a new appointment and it will not negatively affect me. Recorded the conversation for evidence.

I do not actually know if this will be enough. Does anyone have any information or suggestions for this?

So sorry this happened to you. maybe try to schedule an infopass appointment, have a free consultation with an immigration attorney? no advice but bumping your post.

Seems to me that, naturally, my field office does not accept infopass appointments.

Why they cannot give you the date and time of your appointment on your USCIS user account is absolutely beyond me.

I am in the same boat. Only they did not update my case to missed interview. I called and found out it was missed bc i never recieved my notice. I changed my address 6 months in advance with them and they still sent it to my old address. Jow i placed a request to reschedule my interview since Jan 30th, they updated it to request completed on feb 15th and they will mail me their decision. Srill waiting for that decision.

were you able to change your address online? Or did you have to send it in the mail like me?
