  • AOS Interview coming soon- Birth Certificate

    Hi guys,

Anyone know if your spouse (USC)'s birth certificate is very important for the interview? On the notice, it asks to bring it, but my husband's birth certificate was stolen when his house got burglarized. We already filed for replacement, but it may not arrive on time. Any experience guys?

I went to my interview a week ago, the officer looked at my husbands original BC and mine. And told me that my original birth certificate wasn't the format they could accept, so she gave me an RFE. Once I get the birth certificate notarial from my home country, I'll send it to the field office and everything should be good. More than likely they'll give you an RFE at the interview when birth certificate is not available and you'll have 87 days to respond. Don't worry, as long as you send it in, you'll get the green card eventually.
    PD - 3/2/2018
    Biometrics - sometime in April
    RFIE - 7/3
Response to RFE received - 7/16
Case ready to be scheduled for interview - 8/14
EAD is being produced - 9/4
Combo card in hand - 9/11
    Interview is scheduled - 1/18/2019
    Interview - 2/26/2019

May I asked if you husband is USC? Or you are USC?

My husband is USC. Did you already send USCIS a certified copy of your husband's birth certificate?

If you already sent them a certified copy, not having the original or another certified copy is not going to be an issue at the interview. But they do want to see the birth certificate of the USC, wether it is the original or another certified copy.

When I first filed my package, I paid $65 and requested a certified copy of my husband's BC at the website below, it took about 10 days for it to deliver, hope that helps.
