Interview today at NYC office

Today we had our interview and brought along our 9 month old. We were asked basic information then they asked my husband about his stepson (questions about school and his DOB). My husband didn?t remember his school name and DOB. She also asked why my son wasn?t present for the wedding (he?s Autistic and was visiting his dad out of state) I explained this but didn?t go into depth about him not being able to handle the chaos that day. Our lawyer stated ?just because we have a child, doesn?t mean we?re in the clear.? we provided all other evidence and interview was fairly quick. She didn?t ask for my husband paystubs or employment letter. Just very worried this interview will delay everything. She also stated he has a court date for an asylum case our lawyer closed in Sept 2020. Upon asking lawyer, she just stated ?don?t worry, we will file a motion?. No explanation whatsoever. Currently seeking a new attorney.

My husband had an open asylum case which the lawyer suggested we close before AOS when we got married.
July 17- got married and filed i130& i485
Oct 18- received a removal proceedings court date ( i had just given birth to our daughter May 18)
Shortly after that my husbands work auth expired and we havent received any in the mail. Lawyer says not to worry 😒
Feb 19- get a notification that our interview is scheduled
March 6- interview day


We have been having issues with this new lawyer & her lack of responses (not explaining anything & just saying not to worry; taking money). Its extremely stressful as I am looking for work & sitter for my son. We are behind on bills & rent from paying this lawyer so much money. My husband is afraid of switching lawyers for the third time.
I am also afraid the IO didnt ask to see any of his paystubs nor his birth cert. He didn?t know my sons school as he is always working and Im home with the kids.

I'm sorry you are having these problems. I have no experience with using lawyers for this process, and it seems there are a lot of less than favourable ones.

Perhaps a good and bad lawyers thread would help people?

Hi if you dont mind me asking why did your husband end up in removal proceedings?

He adjusted his status and requested to dismiss the asylum case he had. After that, he was placed in removal.
