EAD and AP renewal

My ead and ap will be expiring in October of this year. I don?t think my interview will be schedule this year due to pending backlog for Houston. So I am planning to apply for renewal of both ead and ap.

How soon I can do that ? Is it 6 month or 4 month before expiry date ?

From what I read, you can renew if less than 180 days to expiration date.

Currently, EAD-AP Renewal Applications are taking roughly 120-180 days to be approved and USCIS only allows us to file the Renewal Applications 180 days prior to your EAD-AP expiration date./

So do it 180 days to be safe. The only caveat is you cannot travel outside of US once you renew... that is what our lawyers told us as well.

Why would you not be able to travel? Apply for AP and EAD seperately - my AP is a letter independent from my EAD.

also - it appears that you CAN travel now while a AP renewal is pending (as long as original AP is valid). The current special instructions for I-131 state: "If you file Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, to request an advance parole document and depart the United States without possession of an advance parole document that is valid for the entire time you are abroad, your Form I-131 will be considered abandoned. At times, an individual may have an approved advance parole document while a second one is pending. Individuals may travel on the approved advanced parole document, provided the document is valid for the entire duration of the time abroad. The pending Form I-131 will not be considered abandoned in this situation.

I think that specification was added around November 2018, before that, they will mark the form I-131 renewal as abandoned if you travel with your valid AP while renewing.

Thank you everyone for feedback. My 6 month period start next month so I will file both 765 and 131.
