  • Background Checks. Help requested.

Hello. I have a pending I485 pending with NSC. I contacted them when it was not processed in time. I was then advised that processing was delayed pending the background checks and that it could take months, even years. I was wondering if there are any suggestions as to how to proceed, or how long it might take on average.

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, Theres nothing you can do but wait..............its very unpredictable, some people get through in days, other smonths and a few up to a year or 2

I am also in the exact same situation as original post.
My attorney also said that nothing can be done but to wait. After couple of followups USCIS told us to wait till Dec 2006 and contact back if nothing happens till then.
Attorney also suggested that I can write to my congressman. Does anyone know how to approach this? Any sample letters etc.
      Thanks

These posts are a good reminder that not everytime the process flows smoothly. Often people ask me how long does this or that takes and will often insist that "oh this person said it only took 3 weeks or months etc.'' and belive that it ALWAYS go like that. For example when I applied for my EAD , I actually went to my I-485 interview before I got the EAD so never even used it. (It had been approved and sent to the wrong address and it took 11 long months for them to resend it and the Local office refused to issue an interim one and told me to wait for it in the mail...it came a week after the interview)
