Hello all
I got my 485 approved this past week and wanted to share my experience.
Info:
Type : EB3
I-485 filed : Sep 2001 (spouse), Dec 2001 (self)
I-485 Transferred to Local office (Chicago) Dec -2002
2nd Finger Printing completed - August 2003
Received notice for Interview - Nov 2003
Interview was at 1:50 pm.Arrived about an 45 mins before our interview (2nd floor). Our names were callled out at little after 02:00pm and proceeded to the 23rd floor and had to wait there for about 10 mins before the ins office called us and took us to his office.
The officer asked us to raise our right hands and take the oath
After which he asked us for Picture Id's. Confirmed that the address on the license is correct. Next he asked us for our passports. He asked my spouse what he does and if he still has a job and asked for the employment letter, copies of paystubs and W2's along with tax returns.
He asked us how long we were married and for a copy of the marriage certificate and shared documents we had. We gave him the following
Copy of our Life insurance policy, bank Statements, utility bills. He asked if and where i worked and asked for my EAD.
He took both of our EAD's and I-94's and said he has approved our case.
Next he made us sign and date a form and took our finger prints.
The whole process took about 15-20 mins. The office was very friendly and polite.
It took us more time to find parking around the INS office than for the interview - so folks who plan to drive their own car for the interview in chicago - there is a parking lot across the ins office on fedral street- but the parking lot is genrally full-we drove for 20 mins in the parking lot to get a spot !
