PLEASE, help : I485 Application to NEWARK AND TETERBORO, NJ

I checked my case status online and here's what it gives me:

On October 27, 2003, we transferred your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status to our office in NEWARK AND TETERBORO, NJ for them to schedule and conduct your interview. Scheduling can take several months. Our office in NEWARK AND TETERBORO, NJ will notify you when they schedule your interview or take other action on your case. If you need further information, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283.

Ok, I called them up and they told me that it's going to up to 10 months to schedule my interview! Is that true??? Please answer as soon as possible, I'm going nuts here.
I looked at one of your topics with the same situation and it didn't take THAT long for this person to get his interview scheduled. His username is shahdipak. It took about one month and 20 days from the day the INS sent his application to Newark.
I just don't understand...please answer.

In May, 2002 we got approved, we went through all of the doctors, got our EAD and social security in June, 2002.
I went to check my status online, it says the same thing I've written above.

Don't worry

As you mentioned in your email..I also got the same answer from Newark INS but it won't take that long for them to call you for interview. Maximum two months.
There are few other things you need to address before you go for the interview like, proof of your address match with license, Fingerprint done must be before 15 months from interview date, Copy of your medical reports carry with you, no police case or major criminal case open, portability document in case any and few others according to your situation. BTW, whatever you do, do not move to another State. I moved from NJ to NYC and almost got screwed because there was a chance that they would transfer it under NY jurisdiction. Thankfully the officer was nice and changed my address on the I-485 itself. Another thing is that the 10 months they quoted you is the maximum time. Granted that its the luck of the draw sometimes but avg. is about 2 months. Good luck.

I would also suggest go to the local ins office with the transfer notice and ask them when is the interview scheduled for. I recommend this because sometimes the interview letter gets lost or does not make to the address on time.

They should be able to tell you date and time of the interview if the interview is within a couple of weeks.

When you are called for the interview make sure you carry the following
1. Passport,I-94,EAD
2. Employment letter (recent)
3. Recent pay-stubs (atleast 3)
4. W2's and tax returns for the past 3 years
If married then also carry the following
5. Marriage certificate
6.Life insurance policy,home insurance,health insurance policy
7.Wedding photos
8.Copies of common bank statements,utilitiy bills,credit cards
9. Copy of lease
