Rescheduling Interview

I got my interview for sept5,2006. I am getting I485 through marriage.
I cannot attend so , as they told me on teh phone, I wrote a letter to reschedule.
From what I understand, it cancels the interview and you ar eback in the system.
Has anyone rescheduled before? how long did it take to get another interview?
