  • Getting Married

I am getting married in December to my finace who is a United States Marine and need to know if I should wait to file my I-485 after I am married in order to not have to update my I-485 after I am married.

also, does him being in the military help me with filing the I-485? I heard but do not know for sure, that the process time for spouses of Military Personel is faster. Is this true?

    thanks a bunch

    Well...

Well I think the waiting process is the same.. my husband is in the Army and I haven't heard that my process is going to be faster since he's in the Army.. I have a friend though that married one of my husband's comrades he went to Iraq she got her conditional green card and didn't have a interview since he was deployed at that time. He got to Germany and because she wanted to go to Germany to live with him she became a US citizen really fast the condition was to get military orders and be abroad a least one year so she was a conditional resident for 2 years and a permanent resident for only 1 year!! isn't that nice?!!

      Hello,

As soon as you get married to your US citizen fiancee, file for the AOS. If you are entering the US on the K-1 visa, file for the AOS within 90 days of your entry in to the US.

There is no news as such that Defence person's application is processed faster.
