Why I 797 in my case

I have a pending application for AOS on the basis of marriage to An USC. I checked status for I-130( I-130 was filled by my wife) on phone and found out that they have sent us I 797. I came here on Student Visa why they are sending us I-797? As far as I know I 797 is for those who are eithet on H1 or filing AOS on the basis of job. I have not received it yet. And LUD on I-130 is 9th Dec so I assume thats when they sent I 797.

An I-797 is any Notice of Action...........it could be an approval, denial, RFE, receipt notice..
