  • I-485 Interview Follow Up

    Hello,

I had my interview for PR in Newark, NJ on December 13th. The officer was not satisfied with my birth certificate and said once I re-submit this, he has all intentions to approve my case and my card should arrive within 2 weeks. I promptly submitted another birth certificate in December itself. However I haven't heard anything from USCIS yet. He said if I don't submit the cert. within 90 days, my application will be considered abandoned and the file will be closed. I still have a month to go for my 90 day deadline, but still I am getting a little anxious.. I have sent a follow up letter to the officer again with all the documentation I sent the first time around.. Not heard anything yet.. Is that normal? Looking for some suggestions..

It sounds like you may be ok. You may want to call the customer service 800-375-5283 and tell them your situation.
When you sent in another birth certificate, did you send it certified? Then you would have the actual proof that you beat the deadline.
Do not panic just yet, they seem to be behind in processing (trust me, i know from personal experience)

      Thanks for your note..

I finally got a hand written note to me as a reply, saying all is in order and he is waiting for national security clearance and once that comes through I should expect a decision on my card in 6 MONTHS.. I am a little frustrated and also confused -

      1. Why will USCIS give an interview if the clearance is not there yet? How long does it normally take to get a 'national security clearance'?

      2. I have a reason to think the officer is discriminating and should I request a change in officer? I am not 100% positive though.. maybe just frustrated at this point!!

      3. Should I make an appointment thru 'infopass' and go see an immigration officer?
