  • Unobtainable Chinese Birth Certificate

Someone please help me! My wife and I went to her I-485 interview yesterday. It went well until she asked us for my wife's birth certificate. My wife was confused and I was totally lost. We prepared all the documents listed on the OF-169 checklist. The hospital where she was born does not issue birth certificates. We were told to go to the local police station and they issued the police certificates and checked her houshold register. That info was taken to the Notary and they took care of all the translations. Did the consulate lose this form stating her birth? Was it not good enough? Why did she receive her visa without a record of her birth? I was totally lost yesterday and I did no think to ask these questions? The form states that if not submitted within 30 days they can reject the application. Anyone who can give me any advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mikey

Chinese government does not issue Birth Certificate due to their household register policy. However the certificate you described sounds like my husband's birth document. Meanwhile she also needs a notarized Police clearance from Chinese government.

I think the beneficiary's birth certificate is not required until the AOS interview. In any case, I'm wondering about the same problem. My SO is also trying to get her birth document from Shanghai gong zheng chu.

This is what the gong zheng chu asked for:

      1. both parent's hukou + her hukou
      2. both parent's China ID + her ID
      3. parent's marriage certificate
      4. her photo

The one thing missing that she can't obtain is her father's hukou, which is in the possession of her father's side of the family. And they may NOT give up the hukou (long story, family disagreements).

I don't know what else she can do...
