  • Interview in NY?

    Hey you all!

I just want to say thank you for such a fantastic forum. Without you guys we never would have known what to do and what the processing is all about. Just reading your posts and searching in the forum so that our questions are answered were enough. However, I don't seem to see many posts from poeple in NY.

Unfortunately I did not do my whole "Bio" as everyone else has, maybe I should

This is our story:I came here last year September on vacation and met someone. At the time I was residing in Poland and working. I am originally from Africa. I met this guy and we just fell inlove. I was supposed to leave 1 month after but postponed my flight to December 2006. So when December came and I had no choice but to leave otherwise I have to forfeit my ticket as it was only valid for 3 months he asked me numerous times to marry him. Of course I was reluctant mainly because of 1)life altering decision 2) immigration issues and as an African woman I should know how difficult it is when it comes to scrutiny becuse I am well travelled and have always had issues with immigration. Fortunately for me I have always had great jobs that could sponsor me or shall I say great companies.

We got married in February after I dragged it out long enough and my 6 month visa expiration was nearing in March. We went to go see a lawyer, but it is rather easy and straight forward, but form what I have read on these forums it can get quite nasty. so

    My questions are :

    1) How important is the address on the I-94? Do they look into that? I never stayed with the person that gave me the letter of invite because I was here to travel and catch up with some other old friends ( DC, NY, FLORIDA). She was an old friend and did it just to help me out.

    2) The processing seems to be quite fast because in 1,5 months I had my biometrics done, no problems with extra information being requested , and it seems quite smooth. I was told that I will get my EAD in a month by the Biometrcis official. So any other possible hassles I should anticipate? Not being negative and all just want to be prepared.

    3) Does the FBI check depend on how many countries you have resided in because in 5 years I did an awfull lot of traveling and residing. Should I try and get it from the Embassies of the Countries I lived in to make it faster incase there is a delay?I am refering to criminal clearances.

    4) My husband is great but he is a little clueless about many things. We did not have a proper wedding but we did make an effort and looked very nice. He did not keep the receipt of the rings eventhough it was cheap Neither one of us like jewelry so we decided to just get regular rings. We are only having our reception this weekend due to his Business trips the past month and a half. We were supposed to go for our Honeymoon to S.F but due to the Biometrics appt on that day I had to cancel it. So my questions is: do we have to show proof of everything because when we started dating we weren't at the least or shall I say "I wasn't planning on getting married" so most of our "activities proof" we did not keep.

    5) what we have as documentation is: bank account, Health Insurance, sublease agreement, wedding cards from his friends and a couple from mine, affidavit from my mom and 2 friends and 2 from his side, cellphone account together. This is a lot for him. I feel so bad. Hopefully when I start working soon I can contribute. He wants to do it but I am still an independant spirit. So, will this be enough? Do we need more documentation? For such a short marriage we can't really show much can we? I really don't want to fabricate things.

    6) How important are the affidavits? Do they prefer them from family or friends?

    7) don't worry I am alomost done!!!

Any advise will be great! I am just a little stressed because now we are cramming things that are supposed to be learned over time and it seems **** and unnatural. Well the plus things is I am finding out a lot of things

    Thanks a lot guys!

Just finish reading your story, very touching. However, if you guys going to AOS interview like this, I assure you that the application will be denied. I assume you came in US on B visa, you are not suppose be working on B visa, if you tell the Officer you have a good job (but illeglly), then you will give him or her a reason to deny your application. Plus, you need to convince the INS officer that you were not planning to get married and stay since you got married in such short of period. Further more, you need lots of proof on the legitimacy of your marriage, such as joint bank account, joint tax return anything with both of your name, family photos, etc. Anyway, you have lots of prep works to do. Good Luck.

        correction!

Thanks for the info besame. I am not working at all, just bored at home. I was refering to "when" I start working I can contribute financially.

I also have a letter from my previous employer abroad to justify that I had a work contract until this year June. The other things we are slowly getting together. Can't file or couldn't file taxes together because we got married in Feb this year.

Blessedlove: I did not receive an interview date but to anticipate it to be in June.

        Thanks
        k

If you did file tax return jointly, you need to prepare your joint bank account, joint credit card account, life insurance list each other as beneficiary, lease with both your names, joint utility bills, cable bills......
LOTS OF family photos both of you appear in social events, with his family...

Plus, if your interview is set in Garden City NY, you need to be well prepared.

            hmmm

This is what we have unfortunately :
            - joint bank account and credit cards
            - sublease agreement
            - joint mobile phone account
            - Health insurance through his company together (which cost a fortune)
            - wedding pics, cards, activity pics with friends and us, family pics,
            - proof of my intent to return to my work-country in Europe - ticket, letter from my ex employer stating that my intent was to return to Poland and that my contract has been nulled most recently.

Don't know whatelse to do really! BESAME: I guess you also had a quick courtship?

I married a H1 accountant, 2years going on 3 now. We did not want go through the Conditional Residency crap, so we decided to file the application after 2 years anniversary.

In your case, you need to be prepared, ask the person who rent the room to you guys put something in writing; obtain a SSN if your EAD is approved, open a bank account, that is a must. if you do not have at least this, the interview will be tougher.
